Winter Wildlife Viewing & Photography
It is the perfect time to enjoy prime wildlife viewing in Sweetwater County. Make a leisurely drive to the Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge, and see a few uncommon species of migratory birds that have made the Refuge home for the winter like rough legged hawks, brown-capped rosy finches, and gorgeous trumpeter swans. Winter time also signals the return of the sweet dark-eyed junco, a flashy little sparrow recognized by their crisp markings and bright white tail feathers.
Wyoming winters are also a magical time for photography enthusiasts, as a fresh blanket of snow only enhances the intriguing vistas. Take advantage of the wonderful lighting and bring your camera to shoot wildlife, mountains, rock formations, and new-fallen snow. You can also use cross-country skis or snowshoes to access trails to remote areas for intimate views of winter wildlife in the nearby Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.
