Guide to Wyoming's Big Show Don't Miss the "Event of the Summer"

The smell of fresh funnel cakes, sounds of local entertainment and fireworks that light up the night sky envelop your senses at one of the most anticipated events of the summer. Wyoming’s Big Show, also known as The Sweetwater County Fair, attracts crowds of all ages from across the region. For first-timers or loyal attendees, follow our guide for where to stay and what to do to make the most out of your Big Show experience.

Wyoming’s Big Show takes place at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs from July 30 - August 3, 2019! Tickets can be purchased in advance at a discounted rate or onsite. 

Daily Entertainment

The Big Show has daily events that repeat each day of the fair. From local music by the Sweeney Family Band to interactive fun at the petting zoo, there’s something new to experience each day. Daily entertainment includes: 4-H & FFA events, Bugology - an educational wildlife exhibit, duck races, karaoke, mountain bike stunt shows, wild west shows, the famous Brown’s Amusements carnival and more!

Featured Events by Day

Tuesday, July 30 | Main Gates open 2PM

The Big Show kicks off with a performance by GRAMMY-nominated country artist, Trace Adkins. Other unique events on Tuesday include the Open Horse Speed Events featuring a barrel race, flag race and pole bending.

Wednesday, July 31 | Main Gates open 10:30AM

On Wednesday, rock out to four hours of music by Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Trapt, Saving Abel and Tantric. The Muddfest Concert series brings all your favorite rock bands together in a fun festival setting. Check out other entertainment such as the Diaper Derby for babies and toddlers, the 4-H Dog Show or the Team Roping event.

Thursday, August 1 | Main Gates open 10:30AM

Day three of the Big Show features entertainment by country-pop artist Dylan Scott. On Thursday, the award-winning Brown’s Amusements Carnival will have a two for one special from 5-7PM - get two wristbands for the price of one! The Team Penning event also takes place at the indoor arena.

Friday, August 2 | Main Gates open 10:30AM

Country artist, Gary Allan will perform on Friday evening followed by a dazzling fireworks display. Additional events that day include the 4-H/FFA Round Robin contests for large and small animals, Big Show Barrel Race, Livestock Judging and Team Sorting.

Saturday, August 3 | Main Gates open 10:30AM

The final day of the Big Show closes out with a concert by the 1980s heavy metal band, RATT. After the performance, attendees will have another opportunity to view the fireworks display. Saturday’s special events include the Rotary Kid’s Dog Show for kids ages 4-14, the Livestock Auction Buyer’s BBQ and more!

Arriving Early or Staying Late

While Wyoming’s Big Show is one of the top events of the summer, there are a variety of other things to do in Rock Springs and Green River. If you’re arriving early, consider attending the Red Desert Roundup Rodeo which also takes place at the Sweetwater Events Complex the weekend before, July 25-27.

Visitors staying after the end of the Big Show can attend the Green River Farmers Market in downtown Green River on August 7 or the Sweetwater Blues n’ Brews festival at Bunning Park in Rock Springs on August 10.

Where to Stay

From retro motels to scenic campgrounds, there are plenty of places to stay in Rock Springs and Green River while attending the Big Show. If you want to stay close to the Sweetwater Events Complex and the excitement of the Big Show, book a room in Rock Springs.

Or if you prefer less crowds during this busy week, stay in Green River. For those interested in other adventures such as mountain biking or kayaking, it is located near the Wilkins Peak Trail System and Expedition Island.

When in Rock Spring and Green River, you won’t want to miss out on the dozens of local dining and nightlife options. Visit cafes such as Coal Train Coffee Depot or grab a sweet treat at Cowboy Donuts before heading to the Big Show. And continue the fun afterwards at our nightclubs and bars!
