Green River Whitewater Park and Tubing Channel is a great place to start. Flaming Gorge Days
Visit Expedition Island and Evers Park during this signature three-day occasion, Flaming Gorge Days. Expedition Island is a historical marker that now serves as a launching point for tubing, kayaking and rafting, as well as a favored fishing and picnicking spot. Next door, Evers Park’s Splash Park is an amusing way for the family to cool off. Known as “Southwest Wyoming’s Weekend of Fun,” festivities for Flaming Gorge Days include sports tournaments, evening concerts, children’s entertainment and much more.
National High School Finals Rodeo
The nation’s largest rodeo, National High School Finals Rodeo, is held in the Sweetwater Events Complex. Take a break from the heat, indoors, while your family enjoys the heart-pounding performances of top international competitors. Events include Bareback, Saddle Bronc and Bull Riding, Tie-Down and Team Roping, Cutting, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Goat Tying.
Wyoming's Big Show
The summer event of the American West is Wyoming’s Big Show. During the last week of July and first week of August, this week-long affair draws crowds from states away. Your family can feel the wind in their hair with Brown’s Amusement Carnival and beat the heat at the after dark concert series featuring top musical artists, as well as many indoor exhibits, performances, circus acts and refreshing food vendors. The annual River Festival in Green River is another cool escape from the heat of the summer. Enjoy two days packed with action at Expedition Island. Children will love the Duck Race and kids’ games. Parents will enjoy the Micro Brew Garden, Art on the Green and Car Show on Evers Park. The whole family will appreciate the water access surrounding the park, evening concerts and nightly fireworks displays.
If you want to cool off but you’re pressed for time, worry not! Sweetwater County is brimming with exceptional municipal amenities. The Green River Recreation Center provides swimming lessons, lap lanes, a slide and diving board, as well as floating challenges on Saturdays. Rock Springs Civic Center also offers a pool, including rare features like a climbing wall and an evening concert series held at Bunning Park. If you’re going to choose one, be sure not to miss the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center. This state-of-the-art recreation center has everything from hydro-aerobics to a lazy river to a spray-water play area.
