Southwest Wyoming Family Camping

With over 10,500 square miles, there are plenty of places to pitch a tent in Sweetwater County. We've listed 5 of our favorite family friendly campsites in Southwest Wyoming, from secluded spots to vast open spaces with unbelievable views.  These five campsites are the perfect place to refuel and rediscover what matters most. 1. The Travel Camp – Green River, WY

The Travel Camp is located just 2 miles outside of the town of Green River and clean, friendly campground providing 72 camper spots that can accommodate most sizes of campers. The campground is just a hop and a skip away from the Green River, which brings great family fun and fishing. 

2. Buckboard Crossing Campground – Green River, WY

Buckboard Crossing Campground is located on the far northwest shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, just 25 miles from Green River, WY. The campground consists of 66 single-family campsites, most of which can be reserved. Most sites have a cabana shade over a picnic table while some offer electricity, fire rings and grills. Buckboard Marina is nearby and offers boat rentals, fuel, slips, fishing licenses, bait, groceries and anything else you may need on the water. 

3. Firehole Canyon Campground – Rock Springs, WY

Firehole Canyon Campground is located 29 miles southwest of Rock Springs, Wyoming adjacent to Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Scattered Russian Olives and sagebrush dot this desert-like campground with beautiful views of the reservoir and surrounding red rock formations. Fishing, boating, canoeing, water skiing and swimming are popular activities on the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, the perfect way to keep cool this summer.

4. Mustang Ridge Campground – Dutch John, UT

Mustang Ridge Campground is located on a high desert bluff above beautiful Flaming Gorge Reservoir at an elevation of 6,300 feet. The reservoir can be accessed within a half-mile of the campground. Recreational activities abound, including boating, water skiing and fishing. This large campground offers several family campsites, two of which are handicap accessible, and one group site that can accommodate up to 50 people.

5. Lucerne Valley Campground – Manila, UT

Lucerne Campground is on the shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir at an elevation of 6,100 feet. Conveniently located near a boat ramp, marina and fish cleaning station; no wonder boating, fishing and water skiing are popular activities at Lucerne Valley Campground. This large, recently renovated campground offers over 200 campsites, many of which are handicap accessible and have electric hookups. And if roughing it isn't your thing, there are flush toilets, drinking water and showers are available throughout the campground.
