Sweetwater County Announces Wyoming’s Big Show Apr 26, 2012

Affordable Family-Friendly Event Includes Big-Name Concerts, Performances and More

Sweetwater County, Wyo. – Sweetwater County, Wyo., today announced the dates for the Sweetwater County Fair, a.k.a. “Wyoming’s Big Show,” which will be held at Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs, July 26 - August 5.

Dubbed the #1 event in the state by Wyoming Lifestyle magazine, the Big Show is a family-centric event that draws about 100,000 visitors from all over. Jenissa Bartlett, Sweetwater County Travel & Tourism Executive Director, says “From star-studded concerts to rodeos, rides, food and unique entertainment, there is simply something for everyone. And it’s all very affordable.” 

Bartlett adds that the free concerts, featuring everything from rock to country, are the most popular attraction at the fair. This year’s line-up includes Kellie Pickler, Sick Puppies, Easton Corbin, Theory of a Deadman, Joe Diffe and Sammy Kershaw.

The daily variety shows are another crowd favorite, according to Bartlett, who says the unique acts shouldn’t be missed. Entertainment includes clowns, musical guests and more:  

  • Lady Houdini: Attempting to set a world record in 2012 for the most Water Torture Cell escapes ever performed.
  • Richard Alonzo: A speed painter who performs to chart-topping music and blends martial arts and gymnastics.
  • Sealife Encounter America: A hands-on aquatic exhibit featuring stingrays and other sea creatures.
  • Family Fun Contests: A big part of The Big Show, contests include a diaper derby, a look-alike contest, a bake and taste cook-off and a dog show.
  • Big Show Race: Barrel racers compete for a prize purse totaling $16,000. It’s $150 to enter and limited to 120 contestants.

Additional fair activities include the carnival, exhibitions, livestock, a petting zoo, 4-H activities and more. Tickets for the Big Show are $10 for adults, $6 for children (ages 6-12) and $6 for senior citizens. Children ages five and under are free.
