Four Days of Live Horse Racing Scheduled in August and September

Sweetwater County, Wyo. - And they're off! Sweetwater County, Wyo., welcomes back the horses and racing fans to Sweetwater Downs, reinstated last year after a 17-year hiatus. Trial races will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19, leading to the $25,000-added Sweetwater Futurity. Final races run two weeks later, September 1 and 2. Off-track betting sites will take wagers on the races. Admission is five dollars and includes a program.
The Sweetwater Downs races draw hundreds of horses from all over the west, including Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and even as far away as California. Jenissa Bartlett, Executive Director of Sweetwater County Travel & Tourism, says the horse races are just one of the exciting things happening in Sweetwater County this summer. "Sweetwater County is a sure bet for a fun-filled summer vacation," says Bartlett. "With 10,500 square miles of open space in Flaming Gorge Country you can hike, bike, fish, golf, boat, and more!" Sweetwater Futurity: $25,000 Added - 350 YARDS. For two-year-old quarter horses.
Sweetwater Derby: $12,500 Added - 400 YARDS. For three-year-old quarter horses.
89 & Under Stakes: $12,500 Added - 350 YARDS. For quarter horses three years old and up that have never run a 90 speed index or better in a race prior to January 1, 2012.
Wyoming-Bred Futurity: $10,000 Added - 350 YARDS. For two-year-old Wyoming-bred quarter horses.
Wyoming-Bred Derby: $7,500 Added - 400 YARDS. For three-year-old Wyoming-bred quarter horses.
Wyoming-Bred Maturity: $5,000 Added - 400 YARDS. For three-year-old Wyoming-bred quarter horses.
