Just because the temperatures are dropping doesn’t mean you need to postpone your trip to Sweetwater County! In fact, a winter vacation can be quite extraordinary in our neck of the woods, especially if you have your own winter toys and an adventurous spirit to pack with you!

Here are our top 3 picks for a wonderful winter getaway in Sweetwater County.

Ice Fishing
Lake Flaming Gorge is the place to ice fish for Burbot, rainbows and lake trout. The whole lake is a honey hole, but you can count on fish to get bigger the farther south you head. Night ice fishing is an increasingly popular activity. In fact, the lake can look like a small town during the dead of winter with so many lanterns and headlamps on the ice! Read these important safety tips before venturing out.

Cross-country Skiing & Snowshoeing
As with many things in life, it’s all about timing for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in Sweetwater County, where there are more than 200 miles of trails to explore. The best place for the most trails after a big snowstorm is Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Red Canyon Lodge also has a ton of trails to access on cross-country skis or snowshoes.

Family Rec Centers
Even the most avid snow bunny wants to come inside to get warm every once in a while! That’s where our three family rec centers come in. You can swim, play sports, workout and rock climb at the Rock Springs City Civic Center, Rock Springs Family Recreation Center or Green River Recreation Center.
