Next time you’re in Sweetwater County, you simply must stop by Cowboy Donuts located at 1573 Dewar Drive #4 in Rock Springs. The shop’s motto, “Dang Good Donuts,” pretty much says it all!

The shop, which was featured on Food Network’s competition show Donut Showdown, makes over 55 varieties of fresh donuts each day. Think hand-chopped apple fritters, frosted donuts and the traditional glazed donut. The shop also offers kolaches, butter bread stuffed with everything you can imagine! Fresh-made coffee or a cold glass of milk offer the perfect accompaniment.

The story of how the shop started is a sweet as the treats themselves. Don and Beverly Hammond are the parents of co-founder Jason Hammond. Don and Beverly worked extremely hard to raise their seven kids, and every Saturday they would take their children to the local donut shop. Don often dreamed about one day opening his own donut shop and offering a place where others could make the same great memories he and his family had.

Fifty years later, Jason was able to fulfill his dad’s dream by opening Cowboy Donuts. Don Hammond passed away in January of 2014, but his spirit lives on at the shop. “Cowboy Don” is the mascot of Cowboy Donuts and pays homage to the great man who inspired it all.
